Zen — 禅
The practice of seated stillness
In the rock garden, every stone is placed with the understanding that emptiness is not absence but presence without distraction. Zen asks nothing of you except that you sit. Not to become something, but to stop pretending you are not already whole.
Karesansui — 枯山水
Mountains and rivers without water
Raked gravel becomes ocean. Moss becomes forest. The dry landscape garden draws the infinite from the finite — an entire universe expressed in stone and sand. It asks you not to understand, but simply to look.
Koke — 苔
Where time has been generous
Moss grows where time has been patient. It does not rush. It does not compete. It simply covers what was once bare, turning stone into story. The word kokemusu means a state that has continued for a long time — the quiet footprint of history.
Wabi-Sabi
This world undergoes transformation through the passage of time. The resulting beauty is known as Sabi. The heart that embraces such change is Wabi. Together they form the essence of finding beauty in imperfection.
